Self Isolation

Image
SELF ISOLATION Has become a common term used during this COVID 19 world wide Pandemic we are all experiencing. Upon our return from Ukraine, we were asked to “ Self Isolate” for 14 days to make sure we hadn’t contracted anything bad on the flight home. Self Isolation should not be mistaken with Quarantine which is the compulsory separation and confinement of healthy individuals who have potentially been exposed to anything contagious to prevent it’s spread. Self Isolation is when one voluntarily isolates oneself in an effort to prevent a contagious disease or virus from being contracted by you or spread to others . Self Isolation can be good or bad depending on it’s purpose. If we can help prevent the spread of a pandemic it becomes a selfless act of charity. Spiritual Self Isolation  can be a time for introspection, prayer and communion with God, a time to count your blessings and rejuvenate spiritually.  Enos in the Book of Mormon experienced this type of Self Isolation ...

Coronavirus 2020

Image
This is an actual picture we took recently on our return flight from Kiev, Ukraine. All Senior couples were being sent home from their missions as a precaution. Should we contact the Coronavirus affecting the entire world and now labeled a Pandemic , we would be home where we could receive proper medical care and be close to loved ones. We were sad but obedient. You know that we enjoy finding a Spiritual corollary or lesson in real life events or even objects. Jesus was very effective in taking common objects that the people were  familiar with and using them to teach great Spiritual lessons the people could remember and then apply. His parables are as pertinent today as when he gave them. When We saw this Facebook Post from a dear friend , Julie McKinney, We immediately recognized it as Grandparent Chronicles worthy. We are uncertain if she is the original author or if someone else should be credited. We imagine if it’s on Facebook, we are  free to pass it on. Know with c...

Science Is Right!

Image
Sister Wade gave an amazing talk in church recently. It’s message is Grandparent Chronicles worthy! She taught us that Science tells us that we need at least 4 Basics to survive. 1-Water 2- Air 3- Food 4- Light She then went about showing us how the scriptures agree. 2Nephi 9:50- “Come, my brethren, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters;...” To the woman at the well Jesus explained,( John 4:13-14) “ whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again, but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” In 1Ne 11:25- The fountain of living waters is a representation of the love of God. And D&C 63:23- “ But unto him that keepeth my commandments I will give the mysteries of my kingdom, and the same shall be in him a well of living water, springing up unto everlasting life.” King Benjamin taught his people this important truth that eve...

2020 Vision

Image
Every New Year gives us an opportunity to reflect upon and learn from the past and to look ahead and plan for the future. It wasn’t long ago that 2020 sounded so futuristic, now we are there! A New Year, a New Decade and hopefully one with 2020 Vision! ( pun intended.) Here in Ukraine, our mission district did something that was very symbolic and meaningful to us. Our district leader read Alma 24 from the Book of Mormon. You know the story. The converted Lamanites buried their weapons of war deep in the earth, as a sign of their repentance and covenanted   With an oath to God, that they would never take them up again. This they did in an effort to stay clean before God. After reviewing this passage of scripture he asked us-“Is there anything in your past that you should bury and leave in 2019?” We then wrote those things we wished to leave in 2019 on a piece of paper containing the image of a sword ( some of us needed several papers) and with a shovel in hand, walked them to the...

Christmas in Ukraine

Image
CHRISTMAS IN  UKRAINE CHRISTMAS is a magical time of year in most parts of the world-  Ukraine is no exception. Traditionally, Christmas is celebrated (following the Julian calendar) on January 7th. In 2017, the Ukrainian Parliament officially recognized December 25th as well, (Per the Gregorian calendar) corresponding with most of the western world. Ukrainians now have two official Christmas’s ! Much of the secular is yet to take root so Christmas in Ukraine is all about the birth of Jesus Christ. Even daily Ukrainian greetings change in the more traditional parts of Ukraine. Instead of the normal “hello” and “goodbye”, during the Christmas season people greet with”Christ is born!” And responded with “ “let us praise him!” Still, many traditions have remnants of pagan traditions intertwined. Most of these traditions are found in the  hig...

LET US GIVE THANKS!

Image
In spite of life’s challenges and stress, it’s disappointments and difficulties, we ALL have much for which to be thankful ! The event that Americans commonly call the “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their 1st harvest in the new world in October 1621. per Edward Winslow, a pilgrim who attended, the feast lasted three days and was attended by 90 Native American Indians and fifty-three Pilgrims. Thanksgiving is now a national holiday in the United States that has been celebrated off and on since 1789, with a proclamation by George Washington.  In 1863, Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of “Thanksgiving and prayer to our beneficent Father who dwells in the Heavens,” to be celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November. As you gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving Day, surrounding a table full of your Thanksgiving favorite foods, we hope you’ll take time to ponder and pray- giving thanks to our “beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens....
